During 2006 and 2007, we developed with the GuaduaTech team its most emblematic and demanding project in terms of architectural design and technical coordination: Bahia Convention Centre. It was a hard work in the development of the 3D modeling of the project as well as the technical and detailed plans that required maximum precision.
The project development was carried out by working in parallel on the 3D model and the planimetry developed in 2D. The high precision required by the construction system led me to develop a detailed and assembly manual that was essential to the successful construction of the project. The building, in its bamboo structure component, was assembled entirely by a three-person team of which I was a part.
It has been a unique benchmark in bamboo construction given the high precision specifications and professional commitment it required on our part. The assembly process took us 4 months and was a great professional and personal achievement. The technical component developed in the different types of joints, both fixed and mobile, allowed for unique flexibility in the way the structure was built.
The final measurements and dimensions of each of the bamboo pieces were adjusted to the millimetric measurements that both the anchoring joints required from the 3D model developed in AutoCAD.
The stability of the structure is reinforced by the system of connections between the construction elements and the tensioners, which were carefully calculated for proper operation.
The building's size would have required many more construction elements compared to traditional bamboo construction systems; however, the GuaduaTech system dramatically optimized this number and created a unique structure.
Design as an architectural act that is the product of creation. And a creation that advocates for well-being and hope.
